phimosis: dorsal slit questions

im 29 and have had a problem with phimosis for the last year, Ive seen 4 Urologists before i found one that would do a dorsal slit (I tried the cream didnt work) most doctors wanted to do a circ.. Its Very difficult to find a "foreskin friendly doctor in the U.S.
Well im going under the knife on Dec.15th and my question how far is far enuff for the dorsal slit? I realise it should go past the phimotic ring but how far past? I dont want to get cut to far but i also dont wnat to deal with going for surgury twice if they dont cut far enuff. Any info or advice would helpful
