I suggest the first thing to do is find out from the manufacturer what the cream is supposed to do and treat. You can look in a pharmacapia, a book on drugs which is issued yearly for doctors as a reference manual (look at your book sellers) or do a Yahoo search and find the manufacturers website. That should tell you quite a bit.
For exsample, lots of talk these days about Emla cream as an anesthetic for baby boys when their circumcised, but if you read the information put out by the manufacturer, you'll find out that they specifically say not to use it on the genitals.
