Gary, I think you are just going to have to wear it. Have you children? If so, do you remember what happened
to your wife? Surely she bled on and off afterward for a while, possibly when you had sex, likely it hurt a bit
when parts that had healed got pulled loose.

Actually, this reminds me of cutting teeth - including wisdom teeth. You have to bite through the gum over the tooth,
it gets sore, bleeds, but eventually gets chewed back into the proper place and all settles down. Very similar.

I think you're focussing a bit much on all the vivid detail. You survived, that's what matters, now just concentrate
on enjoying what you have. Leave the poor doctor alone (I know what he told you: "You're perfectly fine!").
