Definitely - at least, not until you have this problem sorted. Like everything else, some people can use soap and be OK, but if you ever have a problem, soap is the first suspect.

I'm basically in the "retract to pee" camp, but not because it's the only way to do things. Just because it is a simple habit that helps young boys and men to keep the foreskin working properly and reduces the likelihood of the irritations of which some complain.

If you have trouble with spraying, it is most likely because your fraenulum is a bit tight (popular topic here - read the other posts) and pulling the foreskin back too hard pulls the pee jet downwards.

It may still benefit you to pull your foreskin back every time before you pee, then either let it forward to do so, or learn to let it loose enough so that you do not distort the jet. Generally, in the shower is a perfect time to practice doing this. Women have the same problems learning to pee straight standing up (see here), so you need not feel bad about it!
