>Hi, I wonder if anyone can fill me in on a few things.
>I`m 42 and have recently (5 days ago)had a full circumcision, after a 15 month wait for the op` on the good ol`NHS.
>At my original consultation I was not informed of what my condition acually was (secondary phimosis), merely that there I could either learn to live with it, or be cicrcumcised. Well such I long time passed before I actually got booked in for the op` that a further consultation was made - this time the doctor was an Asian lady (with poor English). I tried to ask about whether there was any degree of severity in the length cut during circumcision, but was told "no, it`s nothing to concern yourself with, is just a little cut".
>I subsequently found your pages on the web and managed to educate myself a little, and on the day of op`during the pre-op consultation asked if I could have a `partial circumcision`. The consultant refused point blank, and said he never carries out this op, he also said I had BXO? which meant that a partial circumcision wasn`t appropriate anyway (is this true?). I was basically given the choice of having the `full monty`, or leaving ~ I was quite upset at this, but felt backed into a corner somewhat, and ended up having the full op`(under a general anaesthetic).
>I was given no instruction on leaving hospital, on how to look after myself, just given some pain killers, some dressings, and told to phone if there was a problem. Once again most unhappy at this.
>The next day the bruises came up, and my penis seemed the swell to about twice the normal girth and retract to about half its normal (flaccid) length.
>Five days on its still quite swollen and tender, is this normal?
>Some of the stiches have started to disolve and some have wept due to pretty uncomfortable nightime erections.
>Where the glans was previously completely covered I`m finding things pretty sensitive and again uncomfortable.
>How long does it normally take for the swelling to dissipate and the wounds to heal? And how long before the `old chap` can be used `in-anger` again?
>I`m still pretty unhappy about the whole thing, I don`t feel as though I was informed in anything like the detail I should have been, no alternative options where given, and as for it being "just a little cut", well, what can you say? If I hadn`t found these pages I would still be in the dark, I`m appauled at the attitude of the consultants I saw, and wish now that I had walked out and got a second opinion or something.
>Anyhow, nice to get that of my chest! Sorry to whinge!
>Cheers

I was circumcised the day after you - had it privately for £300. The advice I got was very thorough - it's advisable to have a week of antibiotics to prevent infection (go to your GP, if you haven't got them already). The swelling should go down in 7-10 days, but to avoid getting erections, dress the wound up in gauze and then apply 'old-fashioned' Elastoplast tightly to hold the gauze in place with your dick at normal girth. It's worked a treat for me. Make sure you get the stitches out after 7 days - don't wait for them to dissolve completely on their own. Then salt baths for the dick to help the healing proces and avoid infections.

How long before sex or wanking depends on individual speed of healing, but I was told to reckon on 10 days or so before some gentle work with the hand and maybe 3 weeks before full sex.
Do email me direct if you'd like to talk more.
