As an answer to: Tackling embarrassment written by Richard at 05 Dec 2001 11:30:06:
>>>Also, how can I go about "stretching" this particular peice of skin? I've read through a few threads, but haven't found a lot of specifics on this... I really *dont* want to even look into the doctor/surgery avenue.
>>Im facing the same problem you are, ive had this for about 5 years from now and have yet to go to one doctors appointment about it. I fear embarrasment if i would go once but then again my penis look very bad at the moment. I have posted here befoe and I would like to give you advice on your situation, by the way if anyone can give me advice about how to fight this fear to tell your parents and your doctor w/o being embarassed please do tell. Moving on, Mark, this so called "this particular peice of skin", I have the same thing and it bleeds as well when I masterbait, I cannot even get the head past the foreskin, but anways this piece of skin is your frenelum and it is too short if its limiting the head its room. This is called frenelum breve just to let you know. Ive heard you need to go trough a dorsal slit, any other suggestions from anyone else would be great, thank.
>Hi there
>I've never been able to tell my parents about the problems I've had. But it does help to share them. The trouble is, even in the UK doctors aren't necessarily enlightened about penile problems, and immediately refer you for circumcision. I'm sure there may well be people for whom that is the answer, but it would be nice to see a little more subtlety about diagnosis and treatment, given the testimony of people here who've solved things without surgery.
>That said, doctors can be helpful and sympathetic and set your mind at rest. Here are some ideas for summoning up the courage:
>1) It's your body, and you're in charge of it. No-one's going to alter it without your informed consent. But you can change things, perhaps with the help of others, so that your foreskin works how you'd like it to. Think empowerment.
>2) If embarrassment is the barrier, ask yourself this: what's the worst thing that can happen? Will I die of embarrassment? No, it's not terminal. You can limit the people who know to people you trust. If your regular doctor isn't someone you feel comfortable confiding in, see someone else. When I went for a check-up, nearly four years ago, I asked to see a female doctor because I felt happier dropping my trousers that way. If it's the other way round for you, say so.
>3) I suppose in some parts of religious America, masturbation is still considered sinful and this can be a problem. But think of it this way: you have a medical problem. And when you have a medical problem it's a good idea to consult a doctor. Especially if you're bleeding. A huge proportion of people (more than 90%) masturbates. If so, we're all damned to hell. (Note to religious types: I'm a Brit, I don't know the social mores of the Bible Belt first-hand. So to speak).
>Hope that helps. I certainly recognise that the psychological barriers to changing things can be greater than the physical ones. And it is easy to talk yourself into the position where you get to think "this isn't ever going to change; I'm going to be stuck in celibacy for the rest of my days". Well, you can join a monastery, but that's not for all of us. So you have to take positive action to change things to how you'd like them to be.
>RichardAs an American Christian who understands exactly what Christianity means and not one who has merely donned a title, and as one who understands the Bible, I am perplexed by your perception that Americans are somehow living under a shadow. Exactly what gives you this notion, and where is this Bible Belt of which you speak?
I've had the good fortune of visiting various parts of the US, nearly corner to crner and in between, and I'm at a loss to understand your statement.
