Do people even listen to the Doctor?

Something else occurred to me - I did think of it while I was writing the previous post, but it slipped out of my mind again. Recall the mention of the Chinese foot-binding? You tend to say "how funny, what strange people they must be/ have been", but in fact, this ridiculous practice and the consequent deformity is extremely common in our society, with a huge morbidity in terms of falls and secondary injury, loss of mobility and all the complications thereof, infections and aggravation of hip and spinal conditions.

In fact, it would have an estimable mortality if one set one's mind to it!
