Ejaculation

are u always meant to shoot far when u ejaculate? i've heard stories of guys being able to shoot above their shoulders or shoot really far when they come but i never seem to. only a few times i have but usually it just comes out into my hand. could it be i'm masturbating weirdly? it feels ok when i do it and feels like its gonna shoot out when i do reach climax but i never do. or is everyone different?
