That sounds pretty messed up. I know it's an obvious thing to do, but have you gone to another doctor to get a 2nd opinion? If this guy is not showing much interest in your problem, then if you see someone a bit more professional you might get some more positivie help.

I wouldn't say it is normal or abnormal, rather it could sadly be either a bodge-job or complication.

Again, that's something you'll need some medical input on, IMHO.
