Steroid cream - how long is safe?

Currently using Betamthasone 0.1% presribed by surgeon to apply on scar tisue on foreskin following a prepuceplasty. Was told to apply it twice a day for 6 weeks, but scar tisue has not yet gone. Should I keep applying it? How long is it safe to apply it for??
