18 and just found out foreskin is suppose to retract

Hello,
I'm 18 years old and am not circumsized, and just found out the other night that the foreskin is suppose to retract past the head of the penis. I was quiet imbarrased, and concerned when i found this out. With me, I can not do this, it is very paniful to try so. I can only get about half way when soft before the pain is too much. The foreskin is not extremely tight around the penis when erect, it's just the opening at the tip is too small for the head to fit through. I haven't seen a physician yet, but plan to soon.
I'm not sure what I'm suppose to do. I really don't know much about the subject, almost nothing infact. Could someone please tell me some of the options I have? Like types of circumsions or other options? Thanks!
