cleaning the penis/ strange sediments

I have had trouble retracting my foreskin like most people here. So, I've been doing the exercises on and off for a couple of week. Yesterday, I got my entire foreskin behind the head. I was happily shocked to finally see the complete head, HOWEVER, I guess I wasn't cleaning my penis very well because there were white/pinkish sediments of who knows what all around the head of my penis. Of course it smelled and I assume it was dried up excretions that had build up from not properly cleaning. I was concerned because the tip of my foreskin was becoming red, irritating, and hurt. Now, its getting better, but for the past couple of days I was sore. Does anyone know what's going on or have had this problem? any thoughts would be appreciated.
