Worried and confused

Im currently 18. A few months ago I was getting really worried that my foreskin would tear when I first have intercourse (and the pressure to do so is becoming more and more intense)! I plucked up the courage to tell my mate. He said I was suffering from the "cringe" factor and to just be brave. Well I managed to get my foreskin behind the head, however my penis wasn't erect. He reckons to just keep pulling it back. Recently I managed to get it behind the head when I had an erection, but it was really tight and eventually forced its own way back over the top. Also when it was erect it looked stupid. Because the foreskin was so tight it gave the impression of when you squeeze a baloon in the middle. Ive made huge progress to be able to do this though. however I know sex would be far too painful and in-order for me to get the foreskin behind my head when erect I have to pull it back when it is not erect then have the erection. Also due to its tightness, my penis isnt able to grow to its full potential. will I ever be able to overcome these problems without circumsition. And if so, how do I go about this? Please help
