Written by Chris at 24 Mar 2004 21:27:23: Had the op today
I've had the operation today - it was very quick and done under local anaesthetic. I didn't think I wanted to, but I ended up watching the surgeon perform the operation.
I had phimosis which would only allow me to retract about half way down the glans and thus I got the typical 'egg-timer' shape erection if I tried to retract.
I tried to ignore the problem for three years. I'm 22. I did some online searches. I didn't come across this website, but I came across many of the anti-circ sites which made me think it was not worth having a circumcision. However eventually I decided I could not put up with it any more.
I had it done about 6 hours ago and it doesn't hurt very much. It may still be a bit anaethesitesed, although the glans is quite sensitive. I'm a bit concerned about the lack of pain. I have heard that in 5% of cases the penis can become desensitized. But as the glans is still sensitive I am not too worried. I'll probably be in agony by the morning.
I took the bandage off as soon as I got home and put some very loose lounge shorts on. There was some evidence of bleeding but only a little. There is a lot of redness and quite extensive swelling/balooning of the skin on one side of my penis, in the skin in between the stitches and the glans. I hope this is nothing to be concerned about. The other side looks very neat.
I really hope that it is all ok. This op is perhaps the most terrifying thing I've ever faced. But if you're reading this debating whether to go to the doctors about your phimosis etc, then I would really urge you to. I'm so relieved to even be this far too. I can't wait until about 4 weeks time by which time I have every reason to beleive it will all be over. It's a weight off my mind.
I'm posting on here because I have just found this forum via the FAQ - as I was looking for info about post-circumcision problems, such as the swollen skin. I'm less concerned about this now - am I right to be? I also wanted to post on here just in case anyone is considering the operation and would like to hear about my experiences. I really wish i'd found this forum before my op.
Keep up the good work!
