Rips in the phimotic ring

Hi there. After stretching for a few weeks now I have just had a few splits in the skin appear on the phimotic ring. Should I now leave the stretching for a few days or continue the stretching process? I've heard that this isn't a good sign, does this mean that stretching will not work for me? I hope this isn't true.
