I can relate to a lot of what you say, EBT. Because of the nature of the problem it's just too embarrassing and/or painful an issue for some guys to address and resolve - especially if surgical intervention is the only workable option. If it helps any, I know that post-surgery (almost 3 years ago, now) I found that it was very liberating for me and helped me feel a lot more "normal" and like everyone else, in that I could go and have sex without worrying about pain, discomfort, embarrassment, lack of sensation etc.
Ultimately, I can guarantee that you are not alone in how you have felt because of this problem. I have read many, many accounts from people that have put certain aspects of their life on-hold that other people just take for granted. Hopefully when you are healed up you'll feel a bit better about things and be able to do the things you want to do.
If you want to talk further, please feel free to e-mail me.
All the best.
