As an answer to: Abnormal swelling written by Opium at 25 Jul 2004 00:23:07:
A considerable amount of lymphatic fluid drains into the space below the mucosal layer. This is because the foreskin is rich in lymph vessels and every one of these at the cut-line is blocked and it takes a few days for them to regrow across the cut-line. The swelling may be uneven but as long as it looks as though its "water" below the skin (like a hive would look for example) it is not a problem and will settle down in a week or so, clearing almost always in three weeks. If it is dark purple, it would be a small amount of clotted blood and sometimes it is best to get that out.. very easily done by you doctor and it can be painless if some ERMLA or other anaesthetic cream is applied first--- if you have to do this, insist on it!
