Hi, thank you for your concern. I suffer something known as 'pinhole phimosis'. Through the influence of both Jim and AJ on these boards I have had no success in three years (on and off) doing daily stretches with the application of betamethasone. Because of the scar tissue present from overstreching, lack of hygienic influence on the penis itself due to smegma, and inability to retract or have proper urinary function, through extensive research I have made (may I stress) my own decision to consult circumcision. It is my body--my problem--and at present time I feel well enough educated to address the issue well enough on my own judgment.

As I have stated, I am not at all an advocate of infant circumcision or a very strong advocate of the procedure altogether. However in many situations as with the one that I have faced, it is almost crucial for both sexual and hygienic wellbeing to take action at some point in life. I have had no retractibility in eighteen years. And, I have taken vigorous action in stretching for three. Due to the come-and-going presence of balanitis (a bacterial infection) significant scarring has occured surrounding the phimotic ring which has made it virtually impossible for the stretched skin to heal, it simply returns much to it's original state.

Again I do appreciate your concern with the wellbeing of my foreskin but if you were in my present situation I am almost positive that you would understand and also want to take the proper procedures in trying to properly address it.

>The foreskin is erogenous tissue. It gives you pleasure. Cutting it off will reduce your pleasure and also your glans will be exposed and becomes keratinized in time (that means the skin becomes thicker and less sensitive because of lack of protection).

I am aware of the side effects of circumcision, however in the world there is surprisingly a tremendous percentage (25%) of men who have lived with a circumcised penis since infancy. To maintain proper hygiene and feel comfortable with my body and being, I feel that this is an issue that must finally be addressed. Allow me to explain once more that I was so desperate; paid more attention to stretching more than a typical man with this problem would; and received no positive result in trying to solve this situation by way of stretching, as many men have. It is most unfortunate.

>The foreskin also plays a role in the orgasm trigger process. You will regret this decision.

The frenum (membranous fold of skin on the underside of the shaft) does contribute to increased sensation. In the circumcision process the frenum does not have to be removed. The sensitivity of the glans, triggered by movement in general (in natural men by the 'gliding' of their foreskin over the glans), are what cause the sensation that ultimately lead to orgasm. Another function of the foreskin is that it assists in producing natural lubrication. There are alternative methods of providing movement (and gliding) over the glans--as well as alternative methods of lubrication can be just as pleasurable and cause just as much glandular sensation upon reaching orgasm. One effect of circumcision is the certainly reduction of sensitivity over time on the exterior glans, just as the human eyeball experiences the reduction of sensitivity after birth. Needlesstosay, the penis will still be very much functional both sexually and asexually, hence it will not fall off--or anything!

>Also circumcision causes an interruption in the penile blood flow. Health Canada says that one of the impotence causes is a blood flow interruption combined with the loss / weakness of sensory nerves from your penis. Check any flyer on this topic at Shoppers Drug Mart.

Impotence is a progress of life that will happen to every man with age, hence the use of viagra and other prescription drugs in older men that are still active. However, the simple removal of the fold that is the foreskin does not interfere with the blood flow or any of the veins within the penis itself. The nerve endings--at the very tip of the foreskin--are often providing triggered senesation by the act of 'gliding' over the glans of the penis. In the case of somebody like myself, with a phimotic ring, the act of properly 'gliding' is unable to occur anyway so this issue will not effect me very much regardless.

>You will have an increased risk of erectile dysfunction over your life, and less erotic sensation when having sex. Are you sure this is what you want when there are alternative possibilities? Just find the right doctor to prescribe the hormone cream you need.

Many men circumcised during adulthood actually have received a severe increase in sensation--especially for one with phimosis, having never had his glans revealed in the open before--studies have shown this and I am sure there is a different flyer than the one you had mentioned at Shoppers Drug Mart that should explain this. The foreskin does not intervene with the bloodflow of the penis itself (hence, it is very exterior) thus it does not increase or reduce any chance of erectile dysfunction in the long run. I would also like to reiterate the fact that I have gone through two and a half jars of Betamethasone 0.5 ointment already and have only had reversed success due to the scarring over the period of three years so far. I have researched extensively both the anatomy of the penis and every alternative for my condition--and tried all of them--including the insertion of felt pen caps into the ring, with no true success to show for it.

>Watch out there are a lot of “good” people out there more than happy to see your penis cut.

There are a lot of good people out there who are entitled to their own beliefs. Circumcision is a world-wide issue, that has basically been an ongoing battle on the grounds of religion, and everybody has their own expression of religion. My issue is strictly non-religious; more for the sake of my long-term health and hygiene; and more for the sake of having a penis of absolute function. Normally, had my condition not been present, I would be strictly against the idea of circumcision. However I have explored all options and I have kept my mind open to them, knowingly that I may require them one day. I am very familiar with my own anatomy--very educated--and I am very familiar with the effects and results of circumcision. There are very positive results (ie: the reduction of bacterial growth) and also very negative results (ie: the loss of 'gliding' mobility). I am prepared to face these results and do what will be best for my long-term health and long-term sexual encounters.

I really do appreciate that you care and I really do appreciate that you do have your own view and belief of circumcision regardless of how it was influenced. The reason that I have replied with such strenuous explaination is because I have read to realise that you genuinely care about my penis--and how it's future effects you emotionally. Because of this I have a gracious amount of respect for you. But the bottom line is that I have to come to terms and butcher the hell out of this fucker.

Thanks and God bless.
