Both - it is an infection and it is normal. A small amount of infection is not at all unusual, and the discharge (lymph, which would be more straw-colored than yellow if not carrying infection out) is carrying infection out. If it gets increasingly red and swollen before your follow-up visit (assuming you have another scheduled), you'd best call your surgeon for advice. However, it does not sound like there is currently any significiant concern (beyond the fact that you had someone cut a body part away, but you had your reasons and those reasons seemed good enough to you).
