Confusion about Frenuloplasty

Written by Nick at 18 Dec 2004 06:07:48:

I had a visit with my urologist today as it was time for my annual exam. I took the opportunity to ask him to briefly explain frenuloplasty for me. (I also asked him to look at some pictures and quotes from Harmen’s site.) He then drew a sketch of the glans and the frenulum. He drew lines at the tip and the bottom of the frenulum where the cuts are going to be done and said the frenulum in between those cuts is removed. He said if he just cuts it and leaves it there it will hang down like a loose piece of skin. I never knew the frenulum is totally removed until now. I spent hours of seeking and reading articles on the subject, articles that describe the procedure with phrases like “no scalpel cutting is done” , “only tying-up needle is used” and also “no tissue is removed!”. The impression they gave me is that frenulum is cut in several spots and then sewed into the shaft. Now I am only twice as confused. Can somebody graphically and simply (like for me) describe what actually is frenuloplasty. Articles claim the frenulum is “elongated” and no tissue is removed, doctor says the whole thing is cut and it’s gone. Contradiction.
