As an answer to: Post-circ questions... written by Sam at 18 Dec 2004 18:52:29:

>The one thing that is concerning me is the sight of my penis. The underside of the glans is quite swollen and bloody. It was bleeding a bit when I got home from my operation but it's better today. However, the whole thing still looks pretty ugly.

It will look messed up for a while. The swelling does go down though. It looks very rough for the first few days especially.

>A nurse told me I could have a bath the day after the op(today). Is this a good idea? Seeing as the penis isn't covered fully and it doesn't hurt too much I assumed it would be OK but I read on here that it's not usually recommended.

I've heard this advice once or twice, but most advice I've heard (including in my own case, post surgery) is that you should wait before you bathe.

>I wasn't booked in for a check up. They just said to contact the hospital if I notice anything's wrong. The thing is, it's hard to know whether my penis is ok or not. Obviously I know to expect a bit of blood and swelling (which I've got) but how do I know whether everythings healing normally or not?

To be honest you seem to have left with some crappy instructions. I would be inclined to speak to your doctor and ask him about post-op care.

>Do you think I should get an appoitment so I can have it checked or leave it a bit and see what happens? Is the healing process going to be endangered?

Again, because of the vague instructions you have been given, I would be inlcined to get some professional input on how you are to procede. As I said above, it's only for a couple of cases that I've heard you should take a bath so soon after surgery.

You might find my Circumcision FAQ helpful in answering some post-op questions that you might have:

If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Good luck.
