Sam, you're getting it straight from everybody who's responded and also from the nurse who suggested you be patient; she's right; since there's no infection it will gradually heal and in time look less angry and more normal. Take it from one who's been there, once it's cleared up you should be totally satisfied with the final result. (As should any friends you're involved with intimately.) Good luck!
