Thanks.

I don't seem to be having major difficulty getting it off though. It cleans nicely as well. This may be because the gauze is getting well lubricated ahead of time by the Polysporin (anti-biotic/vitamin E enhanced) ointment and that I am changing them fairly frequently.

My incision is nowhere near ready to become undressed, as I am still getting some oozing (which I am glad to now discover is normal!) as well as the swelling. I was more looking for a timeframe as to how long it will take until I will be in tip-top form and be able to resume having a penis.

Right now I am more keeping an eye on the swelling. Fortunately it has seemed to go down, and I have been keeping a very close eye for infection. Luckily, there is no infection either! The swelling of the underside of the penis; including the frenulum is fairly moderate. But as the incision is starting to look more normal for the first time today, it seems that the swelling has calmed a little bit (become much softer) and is beginning to sink in. It is sort of scary, but also funny, as the shaft is actually more prominent than the glans right now. Today I am starting to be able to see (from the topside, at least) how it will more or less appear after it has completely healed, and I must admit it looks dandy in comparison to the 'cone' shaped phimosis that I had before. Regarding the swelling, I have visited my family physician twice (once Friday, once Saturday) and I will likely visit once more tomorrow to make sure things are going smooth.

Anyway, so far the gauze thing has been OK. Thanks for the support.

>Hi Guys,
>Gauze is a BAD idea for dressing a recently circumcised penis! Reason - the wound can ooze lymphatic fluid for as long as three to four weeks and when this dries in the gauze it sticks to the wound making its removal somewhat uncomfortable, shall we say! :-(
>However, if you are unfortunate as I was, to have a couple of stitches pop followed by a considerable amount of bleeding, something FAR WORSE is in store for you. The blood dries and fuses to the wound bonding the gauze with it. Taking that off required me to return to the doctor, and after a lot of soaking which only helped marginally, he yanked it off!!!! I can assure you, that was NOT PLEASANT! I should add that the gauze was my own idea - not his. His nurse told me if I wanted to redress it, I should use tissue paper. If the wound bleeds, the tissue can be soaked off in water in which it disintegrates whereas gauze maintains its fabric integrity. It is a DISASTER to try and unwrap several layers of blood-fused gauze!
>Best thing to use is Melolin non-stick dressings. They have an absorbant inner section which draws moisture away from the wound and keeps it nice and dry to promote healing. This is my single most important piece of advice to anyone having a circumcision. I wish I had know about it before the surgery! This may be too late for you James although I have posted this elsewhere in this forum. I hope to God you don't get any bleeding. Andy, be warned.
