Yes James, and gauze sticks and fuses to the wound if you should have some bleeding! Believe me, although this was not your experience, it DOES HAPPEN and if it does, removing it is VERY UNPLEASANT INDEED. I am speaking from experience here! I can't see how cost is a factor here. Melolin dressings of which only one pack is necessary are not exactly the crown jewels. Any moderate expense incurred in preventing the unpleasantness I've described is worth it.
Incidentally, my bleeding was caused by two stitches popping 4 days after the surgery. I was actually sitting at home watching TV at the time. I figure it was due to swelling I had which was massive. It was not as a result of anything foolish I did. Some guys just get some bleeding and if it happens at night when you're asleep, you will most likely awake with a bit of a mess to deal with. That is why I inform guys of my experience. When I went to the doctor HE advised me NOT to use gauze directly on the wound. Knowing about Melolin before the surgery would have saved me some unnecessary trauma.
