OK 17 circ,

I am going to guess that you're 17 years old and if that's the case, then you're still very young. However you're certainly old enough to have an expectation from what is largely a cosmetic procedure. Even if you're having it done to correct phimosis, it's perfectly reasonable to have a say in what it will look like. Would you go for a nose job and say to the doctor just fix it? I don't think so!

The frenulum is NOT always removed during a circumcision. Some doctors (mine included) absolutely insist on removing it because it gives a tighter finish and a better cosmetic result. I'd say it's vital to discuss this with the surgeon if you care at all about how your penis is going to look.

Although it has never been scientifically proven, keeping some of the inner foreskin is favoured by most as this skin is far more sensitive. This accounts for the popularity of 'high' circumcisions. My doctor REFUSES to do low ones for just this reason. Of course, there are those who say it makes no difference, in which case you should be able to have the style of cut YOU want. Once the inner foreskin is removed you can NEVER get it back so I'd say you need to talk to your doctor about this.

If you happy with having "the remainder of the foreskin.... rest behind the corona or the head of the penis" then I suppose that's OK, but I would not have been pleased with that state. I wanted a smooth shaft with no bunching of wrinkled skin. If you are of a similar mind, you'll certainly need to discuss this with the doctor. Remember son, this is the only penis you'll ever have and it is up to you to get the best possible circumcision available, ie. one that pleases you.

You shouldn't need any drugs/medicines after the operation, but some Melolin non-stick dressings could be handy. In the early days, it is comforting to have the fella bandaged a bit to protect the stitches and keep the sensitive skin off your clothing. There can be a bit of bleeding during this time and a non-stick dressing will prevent the wound from sticking to your clothing. I had painful experience with this so I know what I am talking about here!

I'm sorry James but I have to make some comments on your 'wisdom' here.
"The best thing you could possibly do is not be informed....... don't even set expectations or think about it, go through with the procedure, when it is over and done with you will be glad. In a weeks after the fact, it will be a thing of the past that you won't even think about anymore."

Are you MAD? Every patient has a right to have an opinion and expectation of a surgical procedure. Not everyone is 'glad' after a circumcision and there are literally thousands of men who have revisions to correct work done poorly first time round. Those are the lucky ones. For some, too much damage was done and they end up in misery.

"It's all easy, easy stuff. Nothing to be worried about." Err, in your experience maybe but that is NOT universal!

"The procedural part is actually a lot of fun." Again, maybe for you. Myself and three other guys I know had the anaesthetic wear off before the doctor was finished cutting and I can assure you that was NOT fun!

Finally 17 circ, I am not going to lie to you. A circumcision can be uncomfortable in the first two weeks. However, if you need or want to have this done, it is going to greatly improve the way you feel about your sexual being. I know it's hard for a chap your age, but you should try to discuss any concerns you have with your doctor.

All the best with it.
