You can either wear soft tight underwear, to hold the penis in place and stop the rubbing, or very loose soft clothing that is the least abrasive. Guys have generally said that this tenderness only lasts a few weeks.
Without examination, I don't think anyone can comment on the appearance of the healing site, but some doctors say that irregularities including skin coloration can take as long as six months to smooth out.
