As an answer to: Just a few questions. written by Jake at 28 Jan 2002 02:56:34:
>ive got 'pinhole phimosis' judging by most of the information i have researced and at the moment i am unsure of what to do. I have probably had this condition for a few years now. Since then it has gradually narrowed to what i assume is pinhole phimosis and has remained this way for a while. I have seeked a doctor a couple of times a few years ago and he said that it would just go away by itself (i dont think he knew what it was), and it hasnt gone away. I am still a teenager and quite confused what to do. I dont know how to tell my parents that this "complication" hasnt gone after this long (probably what id find the hardest) and i dont know what treatments theyd offer here in australia.
>So, i was wondering what is this topical cream? would it be available here? cost? and is it just 'over the counter' medicine?
>Also just out of curisotiy i was wondering what are the stats for this condition? 1 in ?, it just seems that it is a very hard condition to find useful info on which doesnt contradict something else.
>Finally; if i leave this untreated what may happen?
>If you can answer any of these or all of these questions it would be largely appreciated.Jake, didn't we already go over this once before? Your name stands out of the crowd for some reason.
Anyway, yes there is a cream or ointment you can get by prescription only that will help with your situation. It is very inexpensive, but would require a trip to see the doctor.
You can probably do just as well without it if you are diligent and persistent in efforts to stretch the opening. The use of an aid to keep the opening stretched for several hours at a time will speed up the process. It is the based upon the priciples used by plastic surgeons to accomplish similar feats, so you can rest assured it is proven by time and lots of experience by the doctors and their patients.
Care and caution are always necessary, so use some common sense and make sure nothing hurts, or that no sharp edges cut into the delicate skin. Also keep things clean by washing with clear water once a day.
The device? With the small size of your opening, it sounds like a cap from a common ball point pen might do the trick. Find one without the clip on it. and insert it into the opening to dilate it. It can be affixed there with a common medical type first aid tape. 3M corp makes a good one called transpore that is quite flexible and does not leave residue. Check on the device regularly to assure that there is no undue pressure being exereted on any given area. You just need gentle constant tension on the skin. You should see some loosening of the tissue in as little as one to two weeks. As the opening increased in diameter, you can increase the size of the device. Any question, ask me with years of experience in this area, personally and under acvisement to others, or you can ask Paul B, who is a physician.
>Thankyou.
