On this description, you most certainly do not need an operation.
I am concerned however that you understand the possibility of paraphimosis - having the foreskin behind the glans (head) when you have an erection, and then being unable to de-erect the glans due to the constriction behind.
I presume you realise this possibility and take due care to avoid it, or perhaps it has happened and you are confident that you are able to manage it; either it sorts itself out when the erection goes, or you can squeeze the glans down after the erection and restore it.

Where did you look? Try the local film processor shop, usually the pharmacy (drugstore) and ask - not for one, but for a dozen and say you want to store screws in them. They should be happy to give you anything up to a bagful (and maybe more). Then you can use them for storing bits and pieces. In fact, they are essential if you service or assemble computers!
> It feels a bit weird, as it's a bit sensitive, but my mate ... found it was like that ... after his operation.
Of course he did. It isn't as we like to say, "rocket science" to realise that nothing you do in this regard should be as uncomfortable and harmful as having a circumcision!
> If I go around for a while with it like this do you think that will work too?
It will be one step. It is the step to the point of being able to have an erection with the skin back, and to get it to "toggle" backward and forward with an erection. At this point, Jim suggests, very much tongue-in-cheek, that you practice doing this rapidly and might get a surprise, but I am sure you already understand the surprise - he is suggesting it might be just a bit more impressive than it has been to date, and I daresay it would be!
However, that diversion aside, to make it move easily over, you really need to slightly over-stretch it both in diameter and in time. In the first regard, either use a canister or something bigger to hold it during the day, or just use your (little) fingers inside, pulling outward, for some minutes as often as you can.
> How long does it usually take?
I'm sorry to say this, but "How long is a piece of string?" It doesn't matter so much as that you do it, and just make a habit of doing it until it's done, and then a couple of months just to make sure.
