That is, I think, a good approach, to "see what he has to say". Then you assess his proposals against your requirements, as much to see how appropriate they are as anything else. A doctor who tells you what you must do is much less likely to be correct than one who tells you what he thinks you should do!

Perhaps due to unaccustomed manipulation? I (naturally) see no harm in discussing this with him. If he feels it is irritation from manipulation, no problem, that will pass. If he feels it may be some infection due to such irritation, then he will suggest some medication (there is some slight risk that any given medication will actually provoke further irritation, and thus some reason for caution - topical antibiotics other than antifungals and povidone-iodine should not be used on the glans, and particularly not the "-sporin" or "-myxin" types). If he felt it was an STD, then treatment would follow accordingly.
