The ARE itself is erotic - Stretch a bit more Phil

Isn’t it fairly likely that this is a typo, and that AJ is saying the “area itself is erotic”?

I like the phrase, though. It sounds existentialist. “Are”, plural of “be”, plurality being a sine qua non of eroticism. Hence: “the ARE itself is erotic”, eroticism being a determinedly plural way of being, plurality being sufficient in itself for eroticism, this, paradoxically, being emphasised by the singular occurrence of is only two words later in the phrase – two occurrences of the verb to be, ‘are’ and ‘is’, which ought, if the phrase is correct, to be erotic. In itself! But is it? Who could say except the verb to be? There are plenty of people who write on queer theory who would be pleased to have written this and meant it. And AJ just tosses it off as a typo.

Good stuff.
