If they keep the skin bandaged so it covers the head while it's healing, it's quite likely to stay that way. On the other hand, if it's bandaged so it heals in the retracted position, it's quite likely to stay that way. If it isn't yet fully healed, you can probably influence the eventual outcome to some extent by taping it as you prefer.
