As an answer to: Post-circumcision loss of sensation written by John at 20 May 2002 17:16:26:

At the risk of perpetuating or inflaming this debate, let me conclude with some observations: 1. I did not take Paul B's comments (or anyone else's) to be derogatory toward my choice, which was medically indicated; 2. For those who inquired, yes, I am currently using a prescription ointment to make sure the lesion is resolved (it appears to be, thank god), and the ointment also serves the function of "maturing" the newly exposed skin (thanks in particular to halfclip for a *very* informative response). Perhaps a temporary side effect of the ointment is diminished sensation. I'll discuss this, too, with my doctor in a couple of weeks; 3. Since I posted, I've again had intercourse and I'm happy to report some sensation seems to have returned (and this time I used "Astroglide," too); 4. My very unscientific survey (three women) shows them to prefer me uncircumcised.

I truly do appreciate everyone's insights and opinions. May I offer advice of my own as a veteran of unrelated online discussion groups? First, if tempted to personalize a post, don't. Second, a bit of self-deprecation is a good thing. And third, respect the other guy's reality, which you're not going to change no matter how hard or articulately you argue.

My best regards to all.
