Actually, and you may verify this by the comments on this board, which you must read thoroughly first, if you do not see some result in the first two weeks, or if you do not get very close to your goal within six weeks, then you are not using a right technique (I carefully avoid saying "the right technique"!), and need to re-evaluate in order to progress.

You would have to be making virtually no attempts to stretch at all, to take longer than six months to achieve retraction, let alone years. It is reasonable to surmise that those who "failed" stretching simply tried for a week or two, then forgot about it.
