It's probably none of my business, but do you or the Doctor have any clue as to why this occurred? I'm thinking perhaps you never retracted easily...what else would explain the instance a couple of years after marriage, unless a period of none-use might have been involved then...and recently, too. If it is true that periodic use will maintain and facilitate retraction, then you would almost have to have been "off" schedule. True?

Actually, this condition was quite dramatically brought to my notice earlier this week, so I had all the more reason to think on it and albeit briefly, discuss it with the colleague with whom I was working.

Sad to relate, secondary phimosis is not entirely uncommon on passing beyond middle age. It involves many factors including of course, disuse, diabetes (mature onset), long-term effects of smoking, medications, inappropriate use of soaps, reduction in hormone levels and some other oddities such as chronic HSV and HPV carriage.

By way of context, I presume most people understand that women are even more severely afflicted by the same process?

Can I suggest that if "Another Jim" is actually using soap on the foreskin or attempting to apply it inside, that may well be the primary cause of the problem?
