I have to agree with you there.

Also, in my case I live in a country where such medical visits are free, so maybe I haven't appreciated the cost involved to people who don't.

But for those:
- who can afford it
- are armed in advance with the knowledge of options like stretching etc as discussed on this forum and the sponsoring website
- are not easily browbeaten

... then a visit to a professional is good advice - it's complicated equipment you have down there - get a professional opinion on the state of it, if not on the treatment... then make up your own mind.
