A useful variation to Paul B's explanation involves pulling your foreskin back over the shaft, unrolling the condom to cover it, and letting the foreskin return to its normal position over the glans, taking the condom along with it so that you have a double layer under your foreskin. Then unroll the remainder of the condom over the shaft. This allows your foreskin free movement during intercourse.
