As an answer to: Circumcision - the REAL FAQs written by Paul B. at 16 Jun 2002 00:14:13:

Good post. I have also read somewhere else about paraphimosis and I really got scared. Any advice on why anyone would get into that situation and on how to really avoid it?

>> did you have any problem during sex prior to circumsicion? what made you take this decision?
>"AJ" argues that he did, and that his decision to undergo circumcision was made because he could not get his foreskin to stretch to allow normal retraction.
>The general consensus is however that, opposite to what "AJ" argues, the simple(!) procedure of stretching the foreskin will almost always achieve a normally functioning foreskin (whereas if you remove the foreskin than you cannot by definition have a normally functioning penis - and that is not an insignificant difference). It would appear that "AJ" simply did not have the patience and persistence to make stretching work - unlike circumcision, it requires you to actually do something, and may take weeks or perhaps months. But the end result, a foreskin that will assist you to have comfortable sexual intercourse (remember, it is important that it be comfortable for the lady, not just the man), is worth the effort and your post implies that you are in no hurry at this point.
>So, if you want a normal foreskin, it is unwise to ask "AJ" for advice, as he does not know how to achieve it and, being piqued that others are explaining techniques for stretching that he did not realise (or was not interested in), will stridently tell you (with no evidence to support him) that the suggestions about stretching are all wrong!
>If you want to learn about successful stretching, read the posts of those who are successful, such as Jake Booth and "anonymous reader", and the posts of those whose advice they have followed.
>> I have foreskin not retracting all the way to glans in both flacid and erect states. would this be a problem during sex?
>Well, "AJ" will tell you that was exactly his problem, and he complained of pain. Are you complaining of pain?
>You may well find otherwise, indeed, it would be a little unusual for it to be painful, and it would appear the vast majority of those who like you, cannot retract for intercourse, simply do it anyway, enjoy it, have children and the whole thing. There are certain considerations that even (or particularly) circumcised men have to allow for, such as making sure their lady is fully ready for sex which is to say sufficiently lubricated by the natural secretions to make it comfortable for both (but particularly, for her).
>This is not so say that you should leave things as they are, merely that it is more than likely not going to be a problem. But in case anyone facetiously claims otherwise, those of us who will advise you on stretching, are in no doubt whatsoever that a foreskin that retracts properly is the best and most desireable thing for sex (of all kinds) - and that is why we will advise you on how to get stretching to work.
