As an answer to: Where do thy make it up?????? written by Ted at 24 Jun 2002 13:39:40:

Dear "Ted":

Having organized the local restoration group (NORM-Phoenix), I can tell you that, yes, there are a number of gay men in our group. For some reason gay men seem more comfortable discussing issues of male sex, openly, and they are somewhat more amenable to the idea of solving sexual problems, unlike "straight" men, who are often too ashamed of their bodies and afraid of charges of homosexuality to engage freely in communal problem solving. On the other hand, the two most active and influential members of our group are straight males, both married with children. One of them, a newspaper reporter on a large local daily, has worked assiduously his long life to end the scourge of genital mutilation. The other, somewhat of a genius, invented the T-tape system of foreskin restoration, and almost single handed provided the impetus for the spread of restoration around the world via the net...a movement now in a dizzying array of permutations.

As far as restorers seeking another circumcision, I believe that you are quite mistaken in believing that they have actually done so. I know intimately one of these men and understand his conflict well. After restoring his foreskin, he was devastated when a lady 'friend' criticized the result. So fragile was his male ego that he immediately looked for a quick solution to his "problem", and, seeking approval and support, broadcast his intention far and wide. Needless to say he retains his restored foreskin today, many months later, and the lady in question is no longer a part of his life. You might be surprise to discover who is...an integral part of his life.

As far as your comments on the National Survey are concerned, Paul B has answered them rather well. I would only add that the incidence and variety of masturbation techniques among genitally mutilated men rated rather higher than that for the group of intact men seemingly because of their somewhat desperate search to replace diminished sensitivity through somewhat bizarre sexual practices. I rather doubt that this makes mutilation a preferred condition.

Finally, you seek to critize the message of NOCIRC and other groups, as lacking in a "broad perspective". Since these and other groups seek to educate: working through individuals, civic groups, and governmental organizations, both state, national and international, including observer status with the United Nations, it would appear that their "perspective" is rather broadly framed. One has only to observe the pro-genital mutilation sites on the internet, sites which restrict membership and suppress open inquiry among their membership, to realize which group remains only an incestuous and quivering anthill of eroticism...completely discredited by its fear of open inquiry, and which group remains an open and growing forum of empathy and reason.

Although many were happy with the result (thus justifying to themselves the decision to undertake this ordeal), others disliked their new genital status, even choosing to undergo recircumcision"
>"As far as sex is concerned, the National Health and Social Life Survey (NHSLS) in the USA found that uncircumcised men were more likley to experience sexual dysfunctions"

One only has to do a search on the World Wide Web to read the statements from this group and others like it and any intelligent person can quickly make up their own mind about the quality of their material and the message they are trying to promulgate. Some of these people mean well and some are intelligent, but lack a broad perspective"
