Pull so you feel the force you exert, but don't do it TOO tough, it actually should NOT hurt (and when I mean pain there, I mean a pain that would warn you to stop. When you try it and do it hard, and you're not a masochist, you'll know what that feels anyway). Feeling of discomfort is okay. Excessive pain is not. Other than that, be gentle and patient and it'll work fine. Keep coming back and report, please.
btw, it's not a *very* fast process, you won't see any result in the first days.
