As an answer to: Problem written by Smitty at 03 Aug 2002 11:13:08:
If you have phimosis it is a fairly mild case, I would say, considering that you have been able to retract, albeit with accompanying pain. There are many boys and men who have never been able to retract their foreskin so much as a millimeter...just to put things in perspective.
The "little red vein type thing" is undoubtedly your frenum, as AJ has indicated. Its purpose is to pull the foreskin back over the glans following retraction. It is similar to the spring on a screen door. New springs are often quite stiff and unresponsive, as you may know, but with constant use they loosen up considerably. The same thing happens with the frenum, though at times an individual will discover that his is not quite long enough.
You need to begin using your foreskin...and frenum...on a daily basis, to "break it in",to get it accustomed to movement, and to stretch the frenum if that is necessary. Don't overdo it...pull back only to the point of its being uncomfortable. Over time you will find that it will pull back more and more, until one day it will be completely responsive to your needs.
I'm not quite sure with what your pain is associated...perhaps you simply overdid the retraction. That the frenum didn't actually break is a good sign.
Often young men find that the glans, having been covered continuously since birth by the foreskin, is extremely sensitive. If you experience pain while pulling gently back on the foreskin...try applying lubrication to the glans, to see if this makes a difference. A tube of KY lubricating jelly or equivalent from your local drugstore should do the job. The drug store brands are usually much less expensive. If the glans is not the source of pain...let us know precisely where your discomfort is located. Again, don't overdo the stretching. Have patience. The spring on your screen door didn't become freely responsive overnight, either.
I think i have phismois but i am not sure. I am 13 and i cannot fully retract my ofreskin. what happens is a get to see a little of the head and a horrible burning feeling is felt. Once i was able to fully retract the skin but it hurt like HELL. when i pull the foreskin back there seems to be like a little red vein type thing holding it back. I don't know what to do. I am also i bit embarresed to go to the penis doctor due to the size of mR. JoHnSoN... Thank u
