I think it is fair to say that most in the medical field think it is an auto-immune disease similar to scleroderma.

Exactly. You can remove nearly any skin condition if you cut all the affected skin plus an amount of clearance, away, but this is rarely a sensible approach for a non-malignant (non-cancerous) condition.

Especially if the condition kept progressing, and/ or they later read that other measures are just as effective.

Well as I say, it is not unreasonable to try, however this is the first I have heard it suggested. I have already sent one (young) fellow with BXO to a dermatologist (who has done the right thing and biopsied it to prove it), and am waiting to see what eventuates in regard to treatment!
