You are absolutely right Paul that thrush/candida is much more common no doubt about it. When Patrick mentioned what he thought might be "scarring," it was the word itself that made me think of LSA or BXO and indeed thrush would be different as I mentioned and he proved it himself as it did remove a piece and said it's receding and it was inflammed underneath which is common with thrush and not LSA. :)
