BXO

I have just been told by a urologist that I have BXO, he has gave me no info and has scheduled me for an urgent circumcision.

I have had this problem for over a year,my penis is like the examples posted on the net, my fore skin will not pull back and the only way I can clean it is using cotton buds. I am not happy with the circumcision option the urologist say's it's the only option, due to the length of time and the state my penis is in. Also being a diabetic doesn't help.

I have tried to sift out the relevant info to help me have an informed opinion but some of it has left confused.

What I am trying to find out is the following:
How could I have contracted BXO, I honestly feel dirty.
Is circumcision the only way, given the length of time I have had the BXO.
Are there less evasive procedures I could ask for.
Have I passed this on to my wife,I'm really worried about this. (I was given absolutely no info on this BXO)
My young daughter loves to wash my hair while I'm in the bath, can I pass it onto her or to any of my children. I know I may be over reacting but I cannot nail down these points.

As I went to my GP in the early stages of this and ever since, should I be angry with my Doctor for not diagnosing this in the first place. He said I had thrush.

One of the main reasons I'm asking these questions, some of the info on the net is scaring the life out off me, so rather than worry because I jump to the wrong conclusions I thought I'd set my pride aside and ask.
