In doing some research this morning, I have learned that Professor Judith Berman from the Department of Genetics, Cell Biology and Development at the University of Minnesota advised women who are plagued with vaginal yeast infections to insert yogurt into the vagina in order to help restore balance to the flora which naturally habitate there.

From your reference to the book, it is easy to search for materials by these same authors which suggest that the first step in combating balanitis should be to stop using soap. Most of the time, it is simply dermatitis, an irritation caused by reaction to the harshness of soap.

On another site, I learned of one practitioners advice of using a weak vinegar solution (1:5 water), to create an acid environment in which yeast cannot survive.
