Dear Rich: It's morning here in the desert, so I hope things went well for you during the night. There comes a point in the sexual arousal of one's body in which the mere touch of the tip of one's finger to any part of the body, even to one's knee, becomes almost more than one can take, so you can be sure that the penis is always especially sensitive. Enjoy it, don't abuse it...it's as simple as that. You are finding that the difference between pain and pleasure is rather finely arranged.

I, too, faced the problem of inhibition and shame, the result of which is that I was circumcised. You would be advised to consciously overcome these feelings so that they do not in future harm yourself unnecessarily. It is a lifelong effort, but at this point you are ahead of the game, compared to my own experience. And you have the internet in which to anonymously ask or say anything...an enormous advantage.

While needing to examine patients, doctors are likewise often terribly inhibited and they will transmit their shame to their patients. As a nudist I find their requirements somewhat ridiculous and funny. Last year, while preparing me for an examination for skin cancer the nurse handed me a paper robe, asking me to put it on prior to the doctor's arrival. When I told her that the robe wasn't necessary, she assumed that I, too, was shame driven and was refusing to disrobe. I only smiled as she left the exam room in a state of confusion. She returned, too, stating again that it would be necessary. But I, knowing how long a patient must wait for a doctor in a cold, air conditioned room, had no intention of shivering. The doctor examined me without my having to wear the clumsy, ridiculous robe, or anything else for that matter.

A few weeks ago, during my annual physical, my GP handed me a paper robe as he left the exam room, asking that I strip, sit on the exam table, and place the robe on my lap. Later, during the exam, the robe kept slipping off, so I asked him if its purpose was modesty...and he said "Yes". "Well, then", I replied, "It's your modesty, not mine." We completed the exam without the robe.

I have also found it extremely helpful to speak candidly to my doctors about any and everything of concern. They may sometimes blanch in shock, but it's often the only way you can get information from them, as their own shame inhibits them from freely offering information.

The point is that you need first to overcome your shame...and then that of your doctor's. It makes life ever so much easier. And it can be amusing, too, seeing their confusion, while realizing that you are in control of the situation and of your life, rather than being dependent upon their "expertize".

>Dear Rood,
>Many thanks for your kind and sincere advice. I will try out the method that you suggested later! No doubt it WILL hurt, but I have to try and start making progress on this matter! I get the impression that you are quite well read, and would like to thank you for the advice you have given! I have a significant number of inhibitions regarding this and as a result cannot face going to see my local GP. Is this a common problem in men by the way?
>I do have some lube and will try it tonight. If it does hurt I will see what happens. Will this pain get easier to accept?
>Many thanks once again, please do keep in touch.
