You have figured this out also as has everyone else. AJ has a weird attraction to Jim, and Jim's lack of response to him is what is inspiring his continual jabs. AJ is the awkward little girl trying to get the attention of her childhood heart-throb, but it is obvious that Jim is in no way attracted to him or any of the other males. Although he is not getting the expected response, immaturiy keeps him trying. Babies always continue to cry when they are ignored.
