As an answer to: Candidal Balantis. written by Paul B. at 16 Dec 2002 22:39:33:
>> I am an uncircumsized 18 year old male that is on the doryx antibiotic. I seem to have developed balantis my penis is red halfway with some other red patches the foreskin is red and my penis is covered by white segma type dry skin.
>Well of course, you have described a "textbook" case of "Thrush" or Candida Albicans infection; due to use of a tetracycline antibiotic. Is that the conclusion you came to from your "Web" research? And if so, have you started on the OTC ("over-the counter") antifungal treatment yet (Clotrimazole = Canesten/ Clonea/ Lotremin or Miconazole = Daktarin)?
>As you would realise, women get this quite often, and diabetics of both sexes, but you already know what the cause is in your case.
>> I am going to see my dermatologist on the 19th.
>Well, fair enough. As long as he is focussed on treating the condition in a straightforward manner and doesn't make any absurd comments about circumcision. If he's competent, he won't mention that at all, unless you were to do so - which you shouldn't of course. Nor will he mention "BXO" unless you make a comment about it. "AJ" is a few sandwiches short of a picnic and has the medical knowledge of a hamster, so you would be well advised never to even read any of his posts other than for vicarious entertainment, certainly not of you need advice about anything.
>And "Rood" appears to be a little confused about BXO in his post, but then, perhaps that's just what happens if you read and/ or attempt to reply to a post of "AJ"s!
>> The penis doesn't seem to be doing better the redness gets bigger and my skin seems to retract harder and it seems to have a little tear that aggravates it. What should I do?
>Well, you need to treat the Candida. The dermatologist will have no complaints if you zoom down today and get one of the creams I suggest, and he may also give you a script for oral Ketoconazole (Nizoral) tablets or even (expensive) Fluconazole (Diflucan) in case you need to really "kick it in the pants" over Christmas.
>The double dose of Doryx (doxycycline) is not something we usually recommend for a long time, the Dermos usually prefer Minocycline (Minomycin) though this has a rare and peculiar side effect of which some are wary - but it does apparently work the best. If you aren't getting better (acne, that is), they will generally suggest Roaccutane (which as it happens. also can make the penis dry, sore and flaky! - bummer, eh?).
>So, get treating if you haven't already. please tell us how you go, and please do, avoid reading "AJ"!![]()
