Regarding asking the doctor, why not pose the same questions to him?
I believe there are discussion groups online which are limited to guys with your condition. You may find strength in discussing things with them, but often those types of groups become little pitty parties in which everyone leans on the other for attention rather than offering true help. However, you seem to be able to sort the grain from the chaff, so why not try them. Perhaps Yahoogroups might offer such a forum.
