And in fact I know of no other way to do it, but to post a URL.

Indeed, I commonly include a picture, either by reference to where someone else has placed it on the Web, or by copying it to my own picture repository. I do the latter where there is some likelihood that the original site will be pulled down, either by the original poster, or because it is an ephemeral server anyway (e.g., Geocities).
Within reason, if a picture is e-mailed to me, I would be quite happy to post it to that page. Certain perfectly sensible (and a few less sensible, but practical given my workload) caveats apply of course:
- Placement on the page would be entirely at my discretion, and once posted, removal would also be at my discretion, mainly if a good case was made that some form of copyright infringement had occurred.
- Pictures whose intent was pornographic rather than clinical would not be placed.
- The pictures should be in jpeg (.jpg) or png format. I would resize and/ or crop them using Electric Eyes or similar to constrain them to jpeg or png, not much more than 100K and no larger than 800 by 600. I will change filenames to suit myself (with a view to making them descriptive), and quite likely to DOS "8.3" style, but in all lower case, and reply by e-mail with the URL(s) where they have been placed, allowing you to then refer to them in a posting.
- The warnings about the e-mail address are - that I do not look there at mail very often, so it might take some time to happen unless it is mooted to me on the forum - in which case I will likely but again, with no guarantee, respond within 24 hours.
- If you were really presumptuous, you might place your message to the forum with a reference to your chosen file name (closely approximating my requirements) appended to the picture repository directory, at the same time as e-mailing it to me, anticipating it to be posted with the filename requested. Your embarrassment if it does not!
- Too-frequent requests and abuse/ spam would lead to the withdrawal of this offer.
- Did I mention - I do not necessarily reply promptly!
Of course, it might or might not suit you at all to e-mail a picture to me - entirely your assessment and choice on that, no-one is forcing it.
