Showing your penis to a doctor is embarrassing. However, if it helps, doctors see men's privates a whole lot and it's really not a big deal to them. Also, an examination only takes a few seconds.

I would strongly suggest you speak to your doctor before taking on board any of Jim's comments and advice (below). He has a bizarre conspiracy theory (see here) about doctors which does not allow him to be objective on the subject.
